NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A former Amtrak supervisor admits he overbilled the company for overtime and regular hours that he claimed to be working when he really wasn’t at Amtrak work sites.
Federal prosecutors say Richard Vogel pleaded guilty Wednesday to a complaint charging him with converting to his own use federal government funds. The 64-year-old Edison resident faces up to a year in prison when he’s sentenced May 22 and also must pay $71,946 in restitution.
Vogel worked for Amtrak for 39 years before he retired last July. He had supervised about 35 employees in Amtrak’s New York division.
Prosecutors say that between November 2015 and June 2016, Vogel fraudulently billed Amtrak for nearly 686 hours of overtime hours and 41 regular hours he didn’t work.
