MECHANIC FALLS, Maine (AP) - Maine’s congressional delegation says the U.S. International Trade Commission was right to rule against Chinese fabric producers for selling unfairly subsidized materials in the U.S. at less than fair value.
Auburn Manufacturing Inc. of Mechanic Falls, Maine, spearheaded the fight over amorphous silica fabric, or ASF, a heat-resistant material. The delegation says on Wednesday that the International Trade Commission unanimously voted in agreement with the company that unfair trade practices occurred.
The U.S. Department of Commerce will now be able to instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to collect antidumping and countervailing duties on imports of the fabric by Chinese producers. The Maine delegation says that will “re-level the playing field” for American companies.
Auburn Manufacturing is the U.S.’s largest producer of industrial-grade ASF.
