GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - The Hancock County Board of Supervisors has floated a proposal to privatize the library system, and WLOX-TV (https://bit.ly/2lLPY4U) reports that county residents packed the meeting room, many of them saying they were outraged.
The system includes five libraries and 26 full-time employees.
Residents at Monday night’s meeting said privatization would hurt an excellent system.
Willie Acker called it a “star library” with 74 percent participation.
Ken Short said the money should stay in Hancock County.
Board members said they’re only exploring options and will discuss the matter again during the next meeting.
