RAMONA, Calif. (AP) - Two men who survived a small plane crash in Southern California had to hike out of the wreckage and climb to higher ground in order to call authorities.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2kCdOA5 ) that a 25-year-old man and 28-year-old man called 911 Sunday afternoon after the crash near Ramona. A 20-year-old woman died in the crash. The men were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
The flight had originated at Gillespie Field in El Cajon, located about 24 miles south of the crash site. The plane was affiliated with an El Cajon-based flight school, American Aviation Academy. School spokesman Mark Hannawa confirmed the plane was one of the school’s aircraft but declined to comment further.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
