SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A northern Utah man has pleaded guilty to stabbing his wife to death in 2014.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported (https://bit.ly/2luMfJ1 ) Wednesday that Joe Joseph Castillo of Roy entered a guilty plea to first-degree murder earlier this week. Several other charges, including domestic violence and child abuse, were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Court documents say Castillo stabbed 36-year-old Kaye Lynn Spackman multiple times in the garage of her Layton home.

She was taken to a hospital and later died.

Police say Castillo and Spackman had recently separated at the time of the incident after more than 20 years of marriage.

They say the couple’s 17-year-old son witnessed the attack.
