REDFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 72-year-old man from Syracuse has died in a snowmobile crash in an area north of the city that’s a popular with snowmobilers.

Troopers say Richard Becher was driving a snowmobile on a trail in the Oswego County town of Redfield around 5 p.m. Thursday when he lost control on a curve and was ejected into the path of an oncoming snowmobile operated by a 51-year-old man from the Syracuse area.

Police say Becher was pronounced dead at the scene. The Manlius resident driving the other snowmobile wasn’t injured.

Troopers say their investigation is continuing.

Redfield is in the Tug Hill Plateau region 30 miles north of Syracuse. The area in Oswego and Lewis counties, a popular snowmobiling area, has received several feet of snow this month.
