SEATTLE (AP) - An inquest jury has found that two Seattle police officers who fatally shot a man had reason to fear for their lives.
The Seattle Times reports (https://goo.gl/oOh3Iy ) the jury found Friday that 46-year-old Che Taylor posed a threat of death or serious injury to officers Scott Miller and Michael Spaulding in the February 2016 incident.
The confrontation occurred after Taylor arrived in an area where the officers were looking for another man wanted on drug warrants.
Miller testified he saw a handgun on Taylor’s hip as he left his car. Both officers said Taylor’s body blocked their view of his hip but were convinced he was reaching for a gun.
The officers shot Taylor while trying to arrest him as a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors will review the case to determine if Spaulding and Miller should face criminal charges.
