SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A northern Utah couple charged with killing their 11-week-old daughter after drinking alcohol and going to sleep with the infant lying between them in a twin bed has been sentenced to jail.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported (https://bit.ly/2kV6P5G ) Wednesday that 24-year-old Michael Antonio Archer was sentenced to three months in jail and 22-year-old Jessica Brunetti was given a two-month sentence.

The couple previously pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.

Court documents say the parents went to bed with their daughter one night in February 2016 and woke up to find the baby unresponsive.

They performed CPR on the child before she was taken to a hospital and later died.

A medical examiner couldn’t determine a specific cause of death but said the baby could have died from compressional asphyxia.

Both parents admitted to drinking alcohol and THC, the active ingredient of cannabis, was found in their systems.
