ASHBURN, Virginia — Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed will miss his sixth consecutive game after he was ruled out Friday for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Safety Montae Nicholson (concussion) and wide receiver Maurice Harris (concussion) will also miss the game.
This will be Reed’s seventh missed game of the season and he hasn’t practiced since Nov. 9 with a hamstring strain. He initially suffered the injury near the end of the first half in Week 8’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 29.
“It’s challenging right now,” Reed said Wednesday. “This is one of the hardest times in my life right now that I’m dealing with.”
Reed last tested his hamstring Monday, working out to the side of practice with strength and conditioning coach Chad Englehart. But the Redskins still have no idea when he’ll be back.
After Sunday, the Redskins will have three games remaining and Reed was asked if he’d consider shutting himself down.
“It’s something we’ll discuss and make a decision together, but I’m not there yet,” Reed said. “I’m just focused on getting my body healthy.”
Reed said the problem with his hamstring injury is that it was caused from his fractured left toe, which occurred in the offseason and has been an issue throughout the season. The tight end previously said that the only way for his hamstring to fully heal is to give it rest, which is why the Redskins have been cautious in limiting Reed’s workouts.
Even if Reed returns for the final three games, he’ll finish the season with his fewest amount of games played since being drafted in 2013. The tight end has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, ranging from concussions to a shoulder sprain.
Reed has just 27 catches for 211 yards this season.
“It’s just unfortunate,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “Jordan is a big-time player for us and when he’s not out there, it has an effect on what we do. Anytime you lose a player of that magnitude, as gifted as he is talent-wise, it’s going to have a little bit of an effect. … I just hate that people sometimes label him as injury-prone. It’s just unlucky.”
Six Redskins questionable
Linebacker Zach Brown (Achilles/hamstring), right tackle Morgan Moses (ankles), left tackle Trent Williams (knee), defensive lineman Terrell McClain (toe), center Chase Roullier (hand) and linebacker Martrell Spaight (ankle) will all be questionable for Sunday.
Brown and Moses returned to practice Thursday after missing Monday and Wednesday.
As has been the case for the last few weeks, Williams also practiced Friday, which is a good sign for his availability.
McClain, Roullier and Spaight were all limited throughout the week.
