PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Police have arrested a 28-year-old Rhode Island man they say was moving drugs through Pawtucket with his 7-year-old son in the vehicle.

Police say John Oliver was arrested Tuesday after he was tailed by detectives.

Detectives were conducting surveillance on Oliver because he was suspected of selling drugs. Police saw him stop at an intersection, take a plastic bag from his car and hide it in a pile of leaves.

Detectives grabbed the bag which they say contained powdered cocaine and crack cocaine with an approximate street value of $700.

Police say Oliver returned to the site two hours later, with his child still in the car, and began to “frantically search through the pile of leaves.”

Officers returned the child to his mother and notified state child welfare officials.
