Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn made it clear during an interview Wednesday that she will be representing the American people at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, not President Trump.
Speaking to CNN in St. Moritz, Switzerland, the two-time Olympic medalist said she takes representing the United States much more seriously than the president.
“I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president,” Ms. Vonn said. “I take the Olympics very seriously and what they mean and what they represent, what walking under our flag means in the opening ceremonies.
“I want to represent our country well. And I don’t think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that,” she said.
Ms. Vonn also said she plans to reject the traditional invitation for Team USA to visit the White House.
“Absolutely not,” she said when asked if she would attend. “No, but I have to win to be invited. No, actually I think every U.S. team member is invited, so no, I won’t go.”
Pyeongchang will be Ms. Vonn’s first Games since Vancouver 2010.
