Sen. Cory Gardner said Thursday that the campaign arm of the Senate Republicans will “never endorse” Roy Moore.
“Roy Moore will never have the support of the senatorial committee. We will never endorse him. We won’t support him,” Mr. Gardner, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told The Weekly Standard.
The Colorado Republican’s stance comes days after President Trump endorsed Mr. Moore and the Republican National Committee recommitted its resources to the Alabama senate candidate.
Mr. Moore has been accused of sexual misconduct with teenage girls — one as young as 14 — while he was a grown man. The allegations date back to his time in the district attorney’s office in Alabama. He is currently running as the Republican candidate in the special election to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ old Senate seat.
While some Republican senators have called on their colleagues to allow the voters of Alabama to decide Mr. Moore’s fate, others are preparing for Mr. Moore’s possible election. Even if he’s elected, the Senate could refuse to seat him or more likely try to expel him after he’s seated.
