Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday that while President Trump has been “very clear” in his opinion of GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore, the people of Alabama need to decide the election outcome.

“The president spoke with Roy Moore yesterday, and he has given him his endorsement,” Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on Fox News.

“It’s very clear now that Mr. Moore is not stepping aside. He is the candidate. He’s on the ballot. The election is in one week,” she said.

Mr. Moore faced criticism after a Washington Post report earlier this month alleged he pursued sexual relationships with teenage girls as an adult man. He has denied these allegations, but the Republican National Committee and party leaders called on him to resign.

He refused to do so and has remained in the race, which is set to be held Dec. 12.

RNC officials have reportedly re-entered the race and are providing Mr. Moore resources in the final week of the campaign.

In the deep-red state, a Democratic win would be difficult, but possible due to the controversy surrounding Mr. Moore. Democratic candidate Doug Jones has led or tied in recent state polls, although Mr. Moore has retained a very slight 3-point lead in the most recent poll.
