HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say two men have died in a gyrocopter crash in Mississippi.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Alex Coker says 70-year-old Wayne House and his son, 43-year-old Richard House, were killed Saturday when the two-seater experimental aircraft crashed coming in for a landing.

Love Volunteer Fire Chief Shawn Witt says his department responded to a report of a grass fire around 5:30 p.m., but he realized a plane had crashed when he saw the propeller and one of the victims. He called the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.

Witt says the crash site was about 500 yards (457 meters) from Eagles Ridge Airport.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
