BRANDON, Vt. (AP) - A deal has been reached to avert a strike by school bus drivers and paraeducators for a Vermont school district.
The deal between the unionized support staff and the Rutland Northeast Supervisory union was reached on Saturday.
A strike had been scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
The Rutland Herald reports the terms of the settlement were not released, pending ratification by both sides.
The 61 union members had worked for 18 months without a contract. Last week the union rejected the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union’s use of retroactive contract terms.
School board chief negotiator James Rademacher says both sides “gulped” and both sides made a lot of compromises.
Union official Jennifer Mallory, a paraeducator in Brandon, says union members look forward to uninterrupted work with students.
