Fox Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday morning that Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll “may or may not” retire following the 2017 season, reasoning the former USC head coach could leave if Seattle decides to rebuild.
Hours later, Carroll responded via Twitter, flatly denying that he is considering retirement.
People talking about retirement… I ain’t old enough to think about retiring! 🕺
— Pete Carroll (@PeteCarroll) December 31, 2017
Carroll, 66, has coached the Seahawks since 2010, leading Seattle to its first NFL championship in Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks have won four NFC West division titles during Carroll’s tenure, his most successful stint as an NFL head coach after briefly helming the New York Jets and New England Patriots in the 1990s.
Carroll’s tweet came just hours before Seattle’s pivotal Week 17 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. The 9-6 Seahawks can clinch a wild card spot with a win and an Atlanta Falcons loss to the Carolina Panthers.
