PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The drawn-out deep freeze is continuing across Pennsylvania, bringing more snow for previously pummeled Erie and possibly postponing Philadelphia’s flamboyant New Year’s Day parade due to bone-chilling temperatures.
A lake-effect snow warning is in place for Erie from Friday morning through early Sunday, bringing with it possibly a foot of snow.
Dave Mulvihill, Erie’s public works director, tells the Erie Times-News that’s “nothing” compared to the more than 5 feet the city had to deal with earlier this week.
The same front will bring snow to a swath of the state from west to east overnight.
In Philadelphia, officials are taking a wait-and-see approach to whether they should hold the annual Mummers Parade. A high of 19 is expected New Year’s Day.
The parade features thousands of performers dressed in colorful costumes adorned with sequins and feathers marching down the city’s main north-south thoroughfare.
