Actor Mark Hamill wants fans around the world to forget about his recent criticisms of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
The man who made Luke Skywalker famous told his 2.29 million Twitter followers Tuesday night that he should have never expressed doubt about the way his character was handled in the latest installment of the “Star Wars” franchise. The film hauled in $400 million at the North American box office within 12 days, but the long-term forecast does not bode well in comparison to 2015’s “The Force Awakens.”
“I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public,” Mr. Hamill tweeted. “Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- @rianjohnson made an all-time GREAT one! #HumbledHamill.”
The actor told Vanity Fair in May that he was not on the same page with director Rian Johnson, whose script portrays the Jedi master as a disillusioned hermit who cuts himself off from “The Force.”
“I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character,” Mr. Hamill told his director prior to filming.
The actor also told the Spanish media outlet SensaCine that he imagined himself as “Jake Skywalker” during filming.
“This is the next generation of ’Star Wars’. I almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe he’s Jake Skywalker. He’s not my Luke Skywalker,” Mr. Hamill said.
