CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Some southeast Wyoming residents are concerned about a mining company’s recent purchase of more than 500 acres of land.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that the property in southwest Laramie County was purchased recently by Hunt Brothers Properties, which also operates a Colorado-based sand and gravel mining company called Asphalt Specialties Co.

A business manager with the company says if they decide to pursue a quarry, they will work with residents and take steps to minimize dust and noise.

But people who live nearby say they fear that a quarry will strain local water resources and affect wildlife.

Companies that want to develop a quarry for mining must get a permit through the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. A spokesman for the agency says they haven’t received anything yet.
