ASHBURN, Virginia — Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams is headed to injured reserve.

After dealing with a bone bruise and torn ligament in his right knee, Williams won’t play in the Redskins’ final two games. Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Friday that Williams would have surgery “soon,” possibly on Dec. 29.

Williams said Wednesday the timetable for his recovery would be six months, which would put his return around training camp. He needs surgery to repair the torn ligament.

The Redskins will promote running back Dare Ogunbowale from the practice squad to take Williams’ spot on the roster. Ogunbowale will be active after backup running back LeShun Daniels fractured his hand during Thursday’s practice.

Williams missed four games because of his knee injury. Despite being hurt since Week 4, Williams was elected to the Pro Bowl this week for the sixth straight time.
