FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A cruise ship passenger who saw the aftermath of a tour bus crash that killed 11 foreigners in southeastern Mexico said she saw skid marks leading to a trail of broken glass and an overturned bus in the ditch.

Nicole Hallingstad and her husband returned to Fort Lauderdale on Friday aboard Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas. The Washington, D.C., couple was on the same tour by a different bus than the one that crashed in Costa Maya, Mexico, on Tuesday.

Hallingstad says their guide checked to see if they should help as the crash held up traffic. She says she saw sheets covering bodies in the ditches.

Authorities have said driver negligence and excessive speed caused the crash that killed eight Americans, two Swedes, a Canadian and a Mexican tour guide as they traveled from cruise ships to visit Mayan ruins south of the beach destination of Tulum.
