MIAMI (AP) - A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times while sitting in a car at a gas station near Miami.
Miami-Dade police spokesman Argemis Colome tells news outlets someone approached the car and fired at the boy. When his friend returned from the service station, he found the boy had been shot.
Investigators said the driver took the teen to a hospital about eight blocks away. Emergency staff called 911 to report the shooting and the driver led police back to the gas station. The teen is in stable condition.
Police are searching for the gunman.
Colome says the driver’s quick thinking “possibly” played a role in saving his friend’s life.
Police said this is the third shooting of a child in Miami-Dade County this week, including a 2-year-old who was killed.
