FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - State officials say the next season of HBO’s “True Detective” will be filmed and produced in northwest Arkansas.

The Arkansas Economic Development Commission announced Friday that filming on the series will begin early next year. Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan says the production will provide opportunities for local actors, extras and production crew members.

HBO Executive Vice President of Production Bruce Richmond praised the work of state officials, Fayetteville leaders and the Arkansas Film Commission.

HBO says the next season will star Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as an Arkansas State Police detective. “True Detective” has won five Emmys in its first two seasons.
