House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has sent a letter to Speaker Paul D. Ryan imploring him to continue the House investigation into alleged meddling by the Russian government in the 2016 presidential election.

The letter describes Democrats as “deeply concerned” over the possibility that Republicans may wish to wrap up the probe.

“Democrats are deeply concerned by the Majority’s efforts to curtail the House Intelligence Committee investigation and its overall failure to address Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election,” the letter from Pelosi, California Democrat, says.

“Nothing less than America’s democracy and national security are at stake, and therefore we must fully investigate Russia’s assault on our election systems to prevent future foreign attacks,” Pelosi wrote. “We expect that you will take urgent action to ensure this investigation can continue, and justice can be pursued, unhindered.”

The House Intelligence Committee has scheduled interviews next week but nothing else is planned for the investigation at this time.

Despite the fact that the issue has consumed the vast majority of the Intel Committee’s time and energies over the past year, Pelosi describes the notion of ending the Russia probe as “political haste,” which she claims “must not cut short valid investigatory threads.”
