Kellyanne Conway said Thursday that the chance of a government shutdown is “slim to none.”
“This White House is committed to keeping the government open. It would be a shame if the Democrats forced a shutdown of the government in the 11th hour trying to negotiate something. I would say that would be irresponsible,” Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on Fox News.
She said that even though she doesn’t see a shutdown happening, Democrats will find it harder to blame Republicans for any problems with funding the government after the passage of the tax reform plan on Wednesday.
“Democrats sometimes think they can blame the party in power, but the American people saw yesterday who is doing the action, who is producing the results, and who is not,” Mrs. Conway said.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan is pushing a continuing resolution that would fund the government until Jan. 19, but additional proposals for disaster relief funds and an Obamacare stabilization bill could create problems for the GOP.
