SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Gov. Phil Scott was on hand to deliver $3.5 million in federal block grants for eight projects all over the state.
The Republican governor travelled to Springfield on Wednesday to announce the grants. The Rutland Herald reports Springfield is home to one of the projects, a plan to create 21 affordable apartments on the top floors of the historic Woolson Block building.
The town of Springfield received a $400,000 deferred loan, which will be loaned to Woolson Block Limited Partnership, a group headed by the Springfield Housing Authority and Housing Vermont. The loan is a fraction of the $7 million total cost of the project.
Scott says most of the grant money will be used to help leverage a state housing bond targeted to help provide affordable housing.
