ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech took care of the majority of its recruiting needs by signing 17 players on the first day of the early period.
That leaves only about four players to be signed in the regular signing period in February. Coach Paul Johnson says he expects to have a total of about 21 signees.
Johnson addressed a need at wide receiver by signing Malachi Carter. While playing at Mountain View High in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Carter set a Gwinnett County record with 1,348 yards receiving as a senior. Georgia Tech also signed wide receiver PeJe Harris from Newnan, Georgia.
The class also includes running backs Dontae Smith from Spring Hill, Tennessee, and Tijai Whatley from Rome, Georgia. Georgia Tech also signed three offensive linemen and three defensive linemen.
