EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Blake Simmons had 17 points with five assists as Evansville thumped Oakland City 98-56 on Saturday to stop a two-game skid.
Evansville (6-2), had won five consecutive games to open the season before losing to Louisiana Tech and New Mexico.
Simmons was 6 of 10 from the floor. Duane Gibson added 14 points with Noah Frederking and Marty Hill chipping in 12 apiece. K.J. Riley totaled nine points with nine rebounds for Evansville, which shot 67% (38-57) from the floor while limiting Oakland City to 20-of-55 (36 percent) shooting. The Purple Aces also nailed 11 of 18 from distance with Hill hitting four of five attempts.
Evansville trailed early but Simmons had a 3-point play that started an 11-4 run to close out the first half, giving the Aces a 39-27 lead. They dominated the second period 59-29.
Logan Worthington led Oakland City with 16.
