Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel dismissed polls showing most Americans disapprove of the GOP tax cut bill, saying the proof will be in their paychecks.

She promised the economic boost from the tax cuts, including reduced withholding from workers’ pay that could kick in as soon as February, will change people’s minds by the time the 2018 midterm elections roll around.

“When people go vote next year, they are going to ask themselves, ’Am I better off than I was two years ago? Well, lets look at my 401(k), let’s look at my pension, let’s look at my paycheck,’” Mrs. McDaniel said on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.”

“These are the types of things people are going to be asking: ’Is my family better, is my house value going up, can I pay my rent, can I pay my mortgage, have Republicans fought for me?’ And the answer is going to be yes,” she said.

A Monmouth University poll found that 47 percent of Americans disprove of the GOP tax plan, compared to 26 percent who approve, 8 percent who withheld judgment and 19 percent who said they didn’t know.

Mrs. McDaniel blamed negative news coverage, which one recent study showed was 90 percent of the news stories about President Trump, for souring Americans on tax cuts.

“It is very hard to break through a mainstream media that is in lockstep against this president,” she said. “So we are pushing as hard as we can and we are focusing on good policy that is going to help the American people.”

The Democrats have nothing to offer, she added.

“Resist and obstruct are not message that are going to resonate at the polls in November 2018,” Mrs. McDaniel said.
