Baltimore elected officials to receive raises Jan. 1

BALTIMORE (AP) - Elected officials in Baltimore will receive a pay raise at the beginning of the new year.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Board of Estimates, Baltimore’s spending panel, will note the pay increases at Wednesday’s meeting.

The City Council passed a law in 2007 ensuring an automatic 2.5 percent raise for elected officials if any union employees receive a raise in the city budge. As part of a $2.8 billion spending plan approved in June, workers for several city unions received 2 percent raises this year.

Starting Jan. 1, Mayor Catherine’s Pugh will rise to more than $180,000, while City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young and Comptroller Joan Pratt will draw $119,000 each.

In addition to the rest of the City Council, liquor board commissioners will also receive a raise.
