CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Gov. Jim Justice is giving state workers an early start to the upcoming holiday break.

The governor’s office said in a statement Monday that Justice has issued an executive order declaring Friday afternoon as an official holiday for public employees.

State employees can be excused for four hours that afternoon from their work duties without charge against accrued annual leave.

Justice says the executive order was “in recognition of the hard work accomplished by the public employees of this state during 2017” as well as a nod to the holiday season.
