PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A key figure in the corrupt administration of late Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci is allowed to keep part of his pension.
The Rhode Island Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Cianci’s former director of administration, Frank Corrente, may collect $1,852.61 per month.
Corrente was caught on undercover FBI video taking a $1,000 bribe. He was convicted in 2002 on six charges, including racketeering.
The city retirement board revoked his pension for the time he spent as Cianci’s director of administration, but said he was allowed to collect a pension for the 20 years he spent prior to that job, in the city controller’s office.
The mayor’s office intervened in the case, trying to get Corrente’s full pension revoked.
The high court upheld a lower court’s decision allowing the partial pension.
