TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Democratic Gov.-elect Phil Murphy has unveiled his pick to be New Jersey’s next secretary of state.

Murphy said Monday at a Trenton news conference that former Passaic County freeholder and administrative law judge Tahesha Way would be his pick for the post.

The secretary of state oversees the state’s election division as well as the state museum and archives.

If Way is confirmed she would succeed GOP Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. Murphy defeated Guadagno in November’s election.

Way, also a Democrat, is currently special counsel to the Passaic County Board of Social Services.

She’s a graduate of Brown University and the University of Virginia School of Law and previously served as a freeholder in Passaic and an administrative law judge.
