CINCINNATI (AP) - Sierra Calhoun scored 14 of her 20 points in the third quarter when Kelsey Mitchell had 12 of her 31 and No. 12 Ohio State took over en route to an 87-76 win over cross-state rival Cincinnati on Sunday.
Mitchell had 14 points in the first half when the Buckeyes (11-2), who have won four straight, led 38-37. But Calhoun, who had eight rebounds, hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter when Ohio State outscored the Bearcats 31-19. The Buckeyes shot better from distance (6 of 9) than inside the arc (5 of 16) in breaking the game open.
Ohio State pushed the lead to 20 points midway through the fourth quarter.
Linnae Harper added 14 points and 13 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season, for the Buckeyes. Mitchell also had a career-high nine assists and seven rebounds.
Shanice Johnson led Cincinnati (7-5) with 17 points, Angel Rizor and Iimar’i Thomas had 15 apiece and Nikira Goings had 13 with a career-high 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. The Bearcats had 19 turnovers that were turned into 24 points.
