MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama’s Board of Education has presented a timeline for hiring a state superintendent next year.
AL.com reports that Gov. Kay Ivey’s general counsel, Bryan Taylor, explained the plan during a board meeting Thursday. The board appointed interim state Superintendent of Education Ed Richardson in September after Superintendent Michael Sentance resigned.
Board members approved a request for proposal outlining what they want from a search firm that will find candidates. The firm will be announced Jan. 11, and applications will be accepted Feb. 9. The firm will review candidates in March. The board will interview finalists in April.
The board can take additional time to select a candidate if needed. Richardson’s contract extends to June 30, or whenever a superintendent is hired.
Ivey serves as board president by virtue of her position as governor.
