FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) - Stanley Black & Decker says it is building a new plant in South Carolina to make cordless power tools.

The company said the $31 million plant to be built near Fort Mill will create 500 jobs.

Stanley Black & Decker says the plant will make Dewalt cordless power tools. A statement from the company did not indicate when the new plant would open.

Stanley Black & Decker makes power tools, but also has divisions that provide storage solutions and electronic security.

Jeff Ansell, Stanley Black & Decker Global Tools and Storage president, says the company has 30 plants across America and has announced several other factory expansions this year.
