President Trump’s son Eric Trump agrees with his father’s controversial assessment of Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, saying the Democratic senator previously asked for campaign money “every three days.”
“I remember Kirsten Gillibrand when she came into his office every three days to ask him for money and asking for major campaign contributions,” Eric Trump, 33, told WABC radio host Rita Cosby in an interview Wednesday. “There is no one who wanted to get into his office more than Kirsten Gillibrand.
“It’s amazing how convenient it is that he’s doing incredibly well there — a minute away from finalizing, maybe the most historic tax cut to our nation and here she is,” he said. “She follows the whole Schumer playbook. Again, it’s a shame, but it’s a distraction. I think we’ve gotten pretty good at tuning out distractions, at least I have.”
Mrs. Gillibrand and other Democrats have called on the president to resign after several women came forward again Monday to renew their allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Mr. Trump lashed out at the senator on Twitter Tuesday, calling her a “lightweight,” who would “come to my office ’begging’ for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them).”
Mrs. Gillibrand on Tuesday called the tweet a “sexist smear” and accused the president of trying to silence his accusers.
“It was a sexist smear attempting to silence my voice, and I will not be silenced on this issue,” she said. “Neither will the women who stood up to the president yesterday.”
Eric Trump said the Democratic calls for the president to resign have “no significance,” and that his father will continue to “push forward” with “what’s ultimately right for this country.”
He said his father is an “amazing person” who is not capable of doing the things he’s accused of.
“I think the allegations are totally unfounded and baseless,” he said.
