DETROIT (AP) - Some Michigan schools closed ahead of a storm that’s bringing fresh snow to a wide swath of the state and creating hazardous traveling conditions.
A winter storm warning was issued Wednesday for parts of the Lower Peninsula stretching from the Ludington and Muskegon area along Lake Michigan to the Detroit area in southeastern Michigan. Forecasters say about 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 centimeters) of new snow were expected by Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service said just under nine inches (22 centimeters) of snow had fallen on Wellston by Wednesday evening with several locations reporting about eight inches (20 centimeters) on the ground.
Detroit’s public schools closed two hours early Wednesday and dozens of other districts around the Detroit area closed in anticipation of slippery, snow-covered roads.
