Paul Ryan: Results will ‘speak for themselves’ on tax plan

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Wednesday that “the results are going to speak for themselves” regarding the Republican tax plan.

“This is bigger than the Reagan ’86 tax reform, which is the year I got my driver’s license,” Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said jokingly on Fox News.

But the House speaker said that he believes the unpopularity of the plan — with about half the country disapproving in most major polls — will change once people begin to see the benefits to them.

“The results are going to speak for themselves,” Mr. Ryan said.

He did say the House has been frustrated with the Senate, arguing that many of the 300-plus bills they’ve passed this year have gone nowhere. But said he hopes once the Senate finishes confirming President Trump’s selection of Cabinet, ambassador and judicial nominees, they will be able to focus more on passing legislation.
