Former NBA star Dennis Rodman wants a meeting with President Trump to prove that he holds the key to peace with North Korea.
“Basketball diplomacy” hasn’t worked for “The Worm” in five attempts, but he insisted in a recent interview from Beijing that he knows how to quell the nation’s saber-rattling.
Mr. Rodman’s comments come in the wake of a Nov. 29 ballistic missile test — its most advanced to date — by the hermit kingdom.
“If I can go back over there … you’ll see me talking to him, and sitting down and having dinner, a glass of wine, laughing and doing my thing,” the 56-year-old athlete said of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, the U.K. Guardian reported Monday. “I guess things will settle down a bit and everybody can rest at ease. I think a lot of people around the world … want me to go just to see if I can do something.”
Mr. Rodman also wants a meeting with Mr. Trump to disclose what Mr. Kim wants “more than anything else.”
“It’s not even that much,” he said.
Mr. Rodman said he was advised by U.S. officials not to attempt another visit to the North Korean police state.
Travel ban restrictions to the nation by the Trump administration went into effect Sept. 1.
