Rep. John Garamendi said Friday that Democrats will not support tax reform without more expert review or time to debate the issue.

“There has not been any one substantive hearing by any tax expert except in a markup, which is not a hearing. That is where you take up amendments,” Mr. Garamendi, California Democrat, said on Fox Business.

Host Maria Bartiromo pushed back asking Mr. Garamendi who is to blame for the lack of hearings and testimony from experts.

“It is the House Republicans,” he responded, adding that since Republicans hold the majority in the House, they are the ones who control debate on the tax reform bill.

“They set the pace. They determine where the hearings are going to be, if at all,” he said.

The House passed its version of the tax plan, and the Senate is in the final stages with its plan. Republican lawmakers and President Trump have promised that the bill would be passed by Christmas.
