MONTICELLO, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a homicide investigation is underway after a 74-year-old woman was found slain in her Catskills home.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports that authorities say Betty Evans was found dead last Sunday afternoon in her apartment in the Sullivan County village of Monticello, 80 miles (129 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

Police say they were summoned to the apartment at Monticello Meadows. Officials haven’t released the cause of death until an autopsy is conducted. No other details have been released.

Relatives say Evans and her husband were getting ready to move to another apartment in Monticello.

The slaying is the second homicide in Monticello in two months. Police say in June a 59-year-old man was fatally stabbed by a 56-year-old sex offender who lived near the victim.
