Dusty Baker sat down prepared with a list.

He knew, though was not thrilled, that questions about the Nationals’ bevy of injured players would be coming. The list is so extensive, Washington could come close to fielding a full team with the players currently on it.

Stephen Strasburg could be the starting pitcher. He threw a bullpen session Sunday, then threw from flat ground in right field Monday. Baker did not offer specifics on Strasburg’s bullpen work from Sunday. The right-hander has been on the disabled list since July 27, retroactive to July 24, because of a nerve impingement in his right elbow. He will need to throw a simulated game and likely pitch in a rehabilitation assignment before rejoining the team.

Trea Turner could play shortstop. He went on the disabled list for the second time this season on June 30 because of a wrist fracture. Baker said Turner should “hopefully” be hitting “pretty soon.”

Jayson Werth could play left field. He is in Florida “progressing,” Baker said. The left foot contusion that has kept him off the field since June 5 is also preventing him from running now. Werth is hitting, though.

Michael A. Taylor could play center field. He is en route to another minor-league stop after six games with the Single-A Potomac Nationals. Taylor hit just .158 with the P-Nats. Baker reported that Taylor felt he was behind the fastball there during his path back from an oblique strain that put him on the disabled lists July 7.

Ryan Raburn could play right field. Baker simply reported that Raburn is “progressing” through his program. A left trapezius strain put Raburn on the 10-day disabled list July 26.

Stephen Drew could play any infield position. He is “still trying to get the soreness out,” according to Baker. Drew was placed on the 10-day disabled list July 29 because of a left abdominal strain.

Shawn Kelley would be a reliever on this squad of injured players. He is pitching for Triple-A Syracuse, working through a right trapezius strain. Kelley has been on the disabled list since June 18. He has a 12.27 ERA after 3 ⅔ innings pitched in Syracuse.

Koda Glover would also come out of the bullpen. He is on the disabled list because of a left hip impingement, but also had shoulder pain to deal with. He is on a throwing program. Baker did not elaborate.

At the end of the list, Baker made a plea to reporters to wait at least a week before asking for further updates. He then dialed his request back to three or four days. Hiding underneath all the good around the Nationals — who are in first place, had Max Scherzer return to the mound Monday and have a clear path to the playoffs — is this long list of injuries everyone is tired of talking about it.
