ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Police say a New Hampshire father who left his young son alone in a car parked outside a Wal-Mart is being charged with child endangerment.

A Rochester police officer alerted to the 2-year-old in the car was able to get him out through the passenger door, which was held in place by a bungee cord.

All told, the boy had been alone for about 40 minutes. Police arrested 35-year-old Leo Ellis when he returned to his car on Friday.

A phone number could not be located for Ellis, who was released on bail. Police say the boy was placed in the custody of his mother.
