KINGSFORD, Mich. (AP) - Airports in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the southern portion of the state are getting millions of dollars in federal funds for improvements.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters of Michigan recently announced $4.8 million is going to Ford Airport in Kingsford and nearly $2.5 million will help fund work at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport.

Ford Airport is getting a nearly $2.6 million grant from the Department of Transportation to complete the rehabilitation of a runway and reconstruct airport lighting. Earlier, the senators announced Ford Airport would get a $2.2 million grant for those improvements.

The funding for Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport is going to Kalamazoo County to rehabilitate runways. The money comes from the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration as a part of the Runway Incursion Mitigation Program.
