ROYALTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say they’re looking for a motorist who left the scene of a fatal crash in the town of Royalton.

The crash happened late Friday on the Back River Road. Police say the vehicle’s operator crashed into a guardrail and fled before officers arrived.

Police say the victim, 38-year-old James Arbuckle, was found dead in the front passenger’s seat. A backseat passenger was injured, as well.

Royalton Police Department Officer John Breault said investigators believe they know who was driving but didn’t want to release the name Saturday.

Investigators say speed and alcohol appear to be factors. Vermont State Police say they’ve taken over the criminal investigation.
