LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. (AP) - The Latest on a wildfire threatening a community of 2,000 in the southern Sierra Nevada (all times local):

8 p.m.

A wildfire has burned at least five buildings and driven residents from their homes in a town of 2,000 in the southern Sierra Nevada.

Kern County Fire Capt. Tom Ellison said the blaze began Saturday afternoon, threatening Wofford Heights, a town north of Lake Isabella and near the Sequoia National Forest.

The fire spread to at least 50 acres amid hot, dry and windy conditions. By sunset, firefighters contained 45 percent of the blaze.

Ellison said the fire has damaged or destroyed at least five structures, and it’s not clear how many of them are houses.

An evacuation center was set up at the Lake Isabella Senior Center.

Investigators looking into the cause of the fire were searching for a person of interest described as the female driver of a blue Chrysler LeBaron with damage to the rear of the vehicle.

A wind-driven wildfire has burned at least 5 homes and driven residents from their homes in a town of 2,000 in the southern Sierra Nevada.

Kern County Fire Capt. Tom Ellison said the blaze began Saturday afternoon and was threatening Wofford Heights, a town north of Lake Isabella and near the Sequoia National Forest.

Amid hot, dry and windy conditions, the fire spread to at least 40 acres and was burning uphill.

Ellison said at least 5 houses were damaged or destroyed by the blaze.
