PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A judge says she’s not dismissing the murder conviction of Anthony Sanborn but will likely ask his defense attorney to provide to prosecutors more specifics about allegations of wrongdoing by law enforcement officials.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2v9dQp2 ) that Justice Joyce Wheeler told attorneys after three hours of arguments Friday that she’d issue a written ruling that’ll determine the next step in the case.

Sanborn spent nearly three decades in prison but was released in April when a key witness recanted.

His lawyer alleges widespread misconduct by Portland police officers and the prosecutor at the time.

The 45-year-old Sanborn was convicted of killing his former girlfriend in 1989 when both were teens. He has maintained his innocence since his arrest. He was sentenced to 70 years for murder.
