COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Comcast has filed a federal lawsuit alleging Vermont regulators overstepped when they required it to provide more high definition access to community television shows in its new state permit.
Company spokeswoman Kristen Roberts tells Vermont Public Radio (https://bit.ly/2wkKUMY ) they decided to file the lawsuit Tuesday after the Public Utility Commission denied a motion to amend the state permit.
The permit requires Comcast to add public access stations on its digital program guide and invest in line extensions so the stations could broadcast live.
Comcast says in the lawsuit it would cost $4 million to update the system and “tens-of-millions more” for the line extensions.
Lauren-Glenn Davitian, member of an advocacy group that represents several community television stations, says they have fought Comcast to bring public access into the modern age.
