SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - State police say no charges will be filed against a Roman Catholic priest in northeastern Pennsylvania suspended pending investigations by church and law enforcement authorities of a child-sex abuse allegation.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/2x6EH7Z ) reports that police in Lackawanna County said Wednesday that they had closed the inquiry involving the Rev. Martin Boylan, citing “investigative difficulties” and the statute of limitations. Capt. Christopher Paris said the difficulties stemmed from an alleged victim who refused to testify.

Boylan had been pastoring St. Patrick’s Church in Scranton when the Diocese of Scranton announced his suspension in April 2016, saying an allegation had surfaced dating to an assignment in Wayne County years ago.

The diocese says Boylan remains removed from ministry and suspended from exercising priestly ministry while the ecclesiastical process continues.
